Making your own baby food with the Babycook (and a Babycook giveaway!)

BEABA Babycook

The Babycook steams your fruit, vegetables and meats while preserving vitamins and flavor and all in less than 15 minutes!

Be sure to read to the end of my review to learn how you can enter to win your very own Babycook!

My baby is now 6 months old and I figured time to start solid foods! The other day I brought home my new BAEBA Babycook. I love this small but mighty machine.

I washed the basket, read the simple instructions and I was ready. My first baby dish was going to be delicious fresh Texas yellow squash. I chopped up the squash, added water to the heating reservoir and turned the dial to cook and walked away. The Babycook steams your fruit, vegetables and meats while preserving vitamins and flavor and all in less than 15 minutes! After my squash was perfectly cooked I emptied the contents of the cooking basket into the mixing bowl. The Babycook purees or blends the food and you control the consistency of the final product, chunky to completely smooth. I put the squash in a bowl and served it to my daughter. She clearly was not as excited about the Babycook as I was!

The  next morning my enthusiasm had not faltered. I was ready to try again. This time I just threw in a ripe pear. I did peel the pear first, wasn’t sure what the consistency would be after I blended it with the skin on. I puréed it until it was nice and smooth and breakfast was served.

Multiportion

Babycook Multiportions - store and freeze your baby food a

After creating delicious babyfood I was wondering what to do with all of the leftovers. Thankfully I brought home two Multiportions to freeze the leftover babyfood in. Multiportions are designed for freezing and storing a la carte foods for baby. The Multiportions are comprised of seven individual portions of ¼ cup (60 ml) each. Multiportions are made from silicone. These lightweight storage containers are freezer, microwave and dishwasher safe.

Additionally, Multiportions are Bisphenol-A free. This product is the perfect compliment for the Babycook allowing you to make the freshest and best food for baby. Making baby food in batches and freezing it makes preparing your own baby food as convenient as buying prepared foods, with the added benefit of using only the best ingredients.  Parents can use the Babycook to quickly reheat or defrost precooked foods.

Ok, so maybe you are wondering why should I invest in a Babycook? The Babycook is compact and lightweight – meaning it takes up very little counter space and if you want to store it, not a problem. The mixing bowl and cooking basket are top-rack dishwasher safe. When you are making food you only dirty one pot! Less clean up for you. It comes with a great recipe book, that was written by a famous French nutritionist Agnes Mignonac. Recipes are arranged into age groups to offer balanced meals that are suitable for your baby’s development.

BABYCOOK:

* Prepares fresh, healthful meals for baby.

* Includes 2 1/2-cup plastic bowl, cooking basket and spatula, with recipe booklet.

* 350W, 11″ x 5 1/2″ x 8″ high.

* The machine has no traceable amounts of BPA.

I am determined to feed my child fresh and healthy options while introducing menus such as salmon with pasta and asparagus! After all, my husband is a chef and I consider myself a foodie – shouldn’t we get our baby off on the right foot? I love my Babycook and think you will too. The Babycook qualifies for FREE shipping when you purchase from Bloom Maternity.

I’d love to have a babycook to help simplify the process! We make our own now, but I feel like I am constantly washing dishes because we have the steamer and all of it’s parts to wash, and the food processor and all of it’s parts to wash….sometimes it gets to be a lot in our tiny kitchen!

I think if you have the money – this is a great tool. But, for the rest of us a pan and a fork for mashing will do. My favorite website for homemade baby food recipes is:

    http://www.babyfood101.com

The site suggests that you just cook for yourself and feed some to baby. There is a 6 month course of suggestions you can sign up for to guide you in introducing a variety of foods for your baby.

    I hope this is helpful.

I responded already, but I want to change my response as to why I would love a Babycook.

If I had a Babycook, I would give it to my friend, Daniela. She is an mother with preemie twins (3 months early), one with a heart murmur and one with a GI problem that may require surgery, and a 3 year old with a seizure disorder. She lost her job in January and her husband lost his job in April. They are rapidly burning through savings and she told me that she is trying to save money by making her own baby food. She has a blender but it is old and doesn’t work very well. She can’t afford to buy the food she wants to give her children, so she is trying to make it. I would give her a Babycook to help her, even the slightest bit.

I made baby food for my son, but I didn’t have a system. I just pureed whatever I had on hand and fed him. With the new baby (born a week ago!!) I’d like to be more organized, and have food prepared in advance. I’ve heard fabulous things about the Babycook on twitter, and would LOVE to check it out!

I would love to win the Beaba Babycook for my niece. (If that is allowed). She has a newborn. She and her husband are medical missionaries in the Amazon River Basin, in Brazil. They want to feed their baby only natural, organic foods, and the Babycook would be perfect for them! I had already sent her information about this product, complete with the instructional video. They were excited about it, but, of course, can’t afford it with no income. If I could win it for them, they would be thrilled!
